Get to know your team
-
Guess the playlist
20 mins | 6+ players
Each team member shares 3 songs from their playlist to the organiser. The leader will then post them in the chat and it's up to the team to guess whose playlist it is.
-
Question of the week
10 mins | 6+ players
Every week, one team member poses a random question to the rest of the group during a call. This question could be more personal (e.g., "What was the name of your first pet?") or a quiz-style question (e.g., "What is the largest country?"). It could even be a playful "Would you rather?" scenario (“Hair for teeth or teeth for hair?”). The aim is to ensure that the questions remain inclusive and respectful to all participants.
-
Virtual Bingo
30 mins | 6+ players
Create a bingo card with fun facts, hobbies, and company-related items. Participants can mark off squares as they find someone who matches a particular fact. You can create breakout rooms to facilitate the discussion if the group is large.
-
Two truths and a lie
45 mins | 5 to 20 players
Players will give three facts about themselves – two of which are true and one that isn’t. It’s up to the rest of the team to decide which of the facts are true.
This is more challenging online than in person, and just as fun.
-
Guess who
30 mins | 8 to 15 players
All players submit three facts about themselves to the call organizer before the call.
During the call, attendees have one minute to guess who the facts apply to in the chat, before the organizer reveals the answers. Players with the most correct guesses win.
-
Guess the workspace
10min | Up to 30 participants
This is a quick and simple game to bring your team together online.
To get started, ask your team to submit a picture of their workplace to one designated person. From here, the person will post the workplaces in a company-wide communication channel and your team will have to guess who’s desk it is.
You can create a poll inside teams to involve team.
-
Familiar faces
15 mins | 5 to 10 players
Each team member will be asked to bring in a picture of themselves when they were younger in a group photo (think graduation picture/family photo). The team then has to guess who they are in the picture. It’s a great way to start the week, or finish a long day
-
Book club
30 mins | 5 to 15 players
There’s nothing quite like a good old-fashioned book club to help your team develop new friendships. To get started, nominate someone who will be the leader for the month. They will choose the book and lead the discussion when fellow readers want to meet up on a call.
-
Recipe club
30 mins | 5 to 20 players
If you have some keen cooks and bakers in your team, why not get them all together to share recipes? With Frontiers being a truly international community, there will always be delicious new meals to try from all over the world.
-
Guess the emoji board
15 min | 10 to 20 participants
Up until a few years ago, emojis were a fun and quirky part of the internet that you weren’t quite sure if you should include in professional emails and messaging. Today, with more people using emojis more often, you now also have a fun new category: your most used emojis.
Here is how to play “Guess the Emoji Board”:
1. Create a list of players and distribute this list to each player.
2. Each person has up to five minutes to guess the five most used emojis by each person on the list.
3. Reveal the answers and award points for accuracy, getting the emojis in the correct order and similar.
-
One word activity
15min | 5 to 25 participants
Ask participants to choose one word that best describes them or their life and to explain why. Alternatively, you can ask them to choose an image (they can download it from the internet or take a picture with their smartphone, for example).
Ask the participants to share their answers via the chat feature, or on a virtual whiteboard.
Have a laugh
-
Silent movie
20 mins | 6+ players
Guess the story described by the other players… while their microphones are muted!
All players go on mute and turn their volume down. Player 1 begins by counting down from 3, using their fingers, then says the first sentence of their film story slowly. The rest of the group then type what they think they heard in the Zoom chat to the rest of the group. Person 2 then signals that they’re starting, by counting down from 3, using their fingers. They then say the next sentence of the story, etc, until the story ends.
-
Evil apples
30 mins | 6 to 20 players
Chances are, many of your team will have played the infamous ‘Cards Against Humanity’ card game. Evil Apples is a similar game, just online – making it a fun game to play with your teammates in a video call.
Download the game through this link and follow the instructions.
-
Can you hear me now
30 mins | 5 to 15 players
For this game, everyone should be in the same virtual meeting. One person is given the responsibility of being the speaker, and everyone else in the room is an artist.
The speaker chooses a random image and describes it using geometric shapes. Artists then draw the thing in question and the closest image wins.
-
The game of things
30 mins | 5 to 25 players
Let each team member come up with topics. Each topic must start with ‘Things that’ (e.g. “Things that I would bring on a desert island”). One person reads the prompt and everyone else sends the reader a private message with their answer. The reader reads each one, and it’s up to each player to determine who they think wrote each answer. The person with the most correct guesses wins the round.
-
Would you rather
30 mins | 5 to 25 players
The leader prepares a list of ‘Would you rather…’ questions that are challenging to answer but fun (ideas here).
A poll could be created for each answer if the group is too large, instead of doing a roundtable. These fun questions help everyone de-stress and get to know each other.
Boost team morale
-
Storytime
20 mins | 6+ players
One person starts by making up a sentence to start a story, then each person adds a sentence to build a collaborative, imaginary tale.
-
Rank your favourites
30 mins | 6+ players
Provide participants with a set of prompts and invite them to rank their favorites. Share your rankings in the chat for each prompt and take a moment to share your thoughts! Here are some ideas:
Rank your top 3 Christmas movies from a must-watch to the most passable one.
Rank your top 3 Harry Potter movies from the best to your least favorite.
-
Team trivia quiz
30 mins | 6+ players
Create a trivia quiz with multiple-choice or true/false questions. You can use Kahoot or slides to present the questions and for participants to submit their answers.
-
Arm’s reach show and tell
15min | 10 to 20 participants
A fun, school-inspired activity: virtual show and tell. To facilitate this show and tell, you can set a 1-minute timer for participants to find something within arms reach that is meaningful to them. Each of your team members have one minute to share a story about their object, including information about where they got it, and why they keep it.
-
Elevensies
10 mins | 2 to 15 participants
At around 11 am, your team can take some time out to grab a coffee/tea/drink with a snack and call your team/buddy/friends to chat about how everything is going! It’s a great way to lift everyones mood, have a chat, and get ready for the rest of the day.
-
Lost in space
10min | 10 to 20 participants
This is a good activity to get to know participants in a way other than just asking the usual questions.
Ask the participants to imagine that they are living in a space station. All of a sudden, the space station malfunctions and they have to evacuate. They are only allowed to take 5 items with them. Which items would they choose? Ask participants to share their answers explaining why they chose those five items.
Build trust and communication
-
Draw your mood
10min | 5 to 15 participants
Instead of verbally asking your colleagues how they are at the start of your meeting (which often results in a half-baked ‘fine’, or ‘okay’ here and there), ask them to draw how they are. It’s much more fun and you’ll spark creativity among your colleagues.
Here’s how to set up Whiteboard in Zoom:
1. Click ‘Share Screen’, choose ‘Whiteboard’, and click ‘Share’
2. Tell each participant to click ‘Annotate‘ in the upper panel
3. Pick any type of annotation tools you like – drawing, shapes, texts – you name it!
-
10 things
30 mins | 10 to 100 players
Play together or divide your team into groups. Ask team members to come up with a list of ten things they have in common (e.g. they’ve all traveled to Spain).
It will help people to learn more about each other and discover common interests.
-
Team debates
10-30 mins+ | 8 to 20 players
Having a debate is a fun way to get your team working together and sharing their ideas publicly. Remember, you want your virtual team building games to be fun, so avoid bland or boring debate topics. Set a broad or funny topic and divide your team into two groups who must argue either for or against. Need some inspiration? Try topics such as:
teeth for hair or hair for teeth?
flat earth vs round earth?
-
Storytelling relay
20 mins | 6+ players
Design a digital template where participants can collectively create a story by adding sentences or paragraphs. Share the template and instructions for each participant's turn.
-
Questions
10-20 mins | 2 to 10 players
The question game is funnier than it sounds. In your video call, you will nominate someone to start, calling them out and asking them a specific question.
The person who the question is directed at must then quickly answer the question with another question, directed at another team member. Those who hesitate are disqualified until one winner remains.
-
Guess who
10 min | 10 to 20 participants
This is a great virtual icebreaker that allows for more intimate conversations among your teammates. If you’re familiar with breakout rooms, you’ll appreciate this one. Give your colleagues a thought-provoking question to ponder, then pair them randomly using breakout rooms.
Allow all groups a couple of minutes to discuss the topic before coming back to the main room to share what each pair talked about.
Get up and move
-
Scavenger hunt
20 mins | 6+ players
Embark on a scavenger hunt adventure where you’ll race against the clock to find specific items or complete challenges. The game leader holds the power to throw unexpected twists by asking creative questions or assigning unique tasks. Let the hunt begin!
